Annoying Eyecare Habits that might break your Optometrist's heart.
Valentines' Day is over but don't fret, let me remind you that your usual go-to Optometrist still cares about your eyes, everyday. They're probably wondering if you need some adjustments, or are you wearing your glasses you just made, or are you still giddy from wearing them. They will be there to help you the moment you come into the shop. Let's avoid doing some things that may annoy your Optometrist!
Here are the Top 5 Annoying Eyecare Habits in my opinion:
5) Not replacing your lens case/solutions regularly
Do you know how dirty your lens case is, if it's not being replaced regularly? There is a higher risk of infections the longer you use the lens case. Rule of thumb: Change it every time you open up a new solution bottle. Most new solutions would have a free lens case in the box anyway. The solutions you pour in the lens case should be replaced each time you wear your lenses. Remember to rub your lenses while you're at it. If your eyes are getting the itch and redness from wearing your lenses, you won't feel good and look good.
4) Removing your spectacles from your face with one hand.
One of the ways we advise children who are first-time spectacles wearers is to use both hands to put on or remove the spectacles from the face. This is to avoid rough handling and breakages. We've seen many spectacles temples (aka the frame legs) breaking one-sided because of this. Bad habits, if managed, can save us the hassle and the money.
3) Sleeping with your contact lens on
Young peeps going out late and having a good time, I know that you'll most likely overwear your lens and maybe with a few drops of eye lubricants, you'll continue to have fun with your date. At the very least, do remember to remove your lens when you reach home after a late night out. Sometimes, it's hard for those who needs it for work - such as cabin crew. Then maybe it's time to consider another option for you. It's gonna save your eyes some discomfort the next morning and lessen the risk of infection!
2) Using your shirt to wipe your spectacles
We understand that a spectacle case would be too bulky for most to carry around. Even if it's hard to carry a cloth around, please avoid using your shirt to wipe the lenses. They're usually too rough for the coating. Here's a tip: we have optical stores almost anywhere around us. Just pop in to ask for a quick wipe or even a monthly ultrasonic wash!
1) Last minute order of contact lens or spectacles
I would say this is at the top as there is usually nothing we can help with the operations of the supplier. Some supplies would take 2-3 working days. Sometimes, even up to a week. This could easily be handled if an order can be communicated earlier. Give your optometrist a call if you need to. Or come down for some spectacles shopping. Your optometrist always look forward to seeing you see better!
